Bexar Naked Playwrights

Laurie Dietrich

Laurie Dietrich is a writer, director and performance artist
working in San Antonio area theaters for the last 25 years. A
co-founder of The Shoestring Shakespeare Company, she
served as its Artistic Director from 1995-2002, guiding critically-
acclaimed seasons that mixed canonical scripts, contemporary
classics and new works by local playwrights. Since 2002, Dietrich has focused on developing and directing new and contemporary scripts, with an emphasis on solo works. Her current interest is in the intersection of ritual and theatre, and the creation of ritual-based, interactive performance work. At Jump-Start she directed the premier of Sterling Houston’s Tennessee’s Last Waltz (presented as a part of an evening of his short works titled Hollywood and Time); Otherwise Occupied, a script based on interviews with women in occupied Palestine, compiled by company member Diane Monroe and collaborator Salwa Arnous; and I’ll Remember For You, Lisa Suarez’ debut play about her life as a caregiver for her mother, who has dementia.
